A Brief Text (Stretch) about Maturity at 18 years old

It might seem weird to hear about maturity from a 18-year-old guy like me. It is, indeed...

But as time goes by, I have realized I have changed (and that I am still changing), I believe that it is very funny how in the end of the adolescence these changes become much more often. I remind me doing things two years ago I wouldn't do nowadays. I changed a lot in the last months also, all the time, what goes OK changes us, but what doesn't change us even more.

The process of growth prepare us for the life in a way that makes us understand our rights and wrongs, it makes us see the good and the bad in both parts.
A person's maturation process is hard in every single way... we question us and everything else. But in the end everything makes sense, everything seems to fit on its own place, slowly.

This is the magic of live, it lets us ready for what is coming and experienced to share it.

When it overwhelms me, I just think of the phrase from the Greek philosopher Heraclitus:
"No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it's not the same river and he's not the same man."

Choices with a hint of Sartre

Hello guys, I know it is been a while but it is hard for me to translate all those texts during the week or the weekend... so yeah, a tight schedule and everything...

So here it comes an other text... I hope you'll enjoy it!!

( I wrote this post last week in Portuguese. If you'd like to read in Portuguese, click here). Well here it goes...

Jean Paul Sartre, a French philosopher from the last century was the major responsible for the dissemination of existentialism. I won't really get into the theory by itself, but it talks about our existence, that is basically what we are (which is really complicated...), but it can be responsible for our attitude. Therefore, our existence can be changed according to our choices,

"The essence proceeds the existence" - Jean Paul Sartre

A popular example is Harry Potter in the first book, when he was sitting with the Sorting Hat on his head, he picked up to be in Gryffindor. Even though being part of Slytherin is part of his essence, regarding his contact with Voldemort.

Therefore, I think of choices, they have got the power to change the world, at least our world. There are choices in everything we do during life, we make choices to come down the way we are now, and even more to reach what we want.

Little, big, important or not. Every decision is relevant, all of them makes us think on what, many times, make us develop as human-beings. They intrigue writers, from fiction until philosophers.

We have got the free will. Our choices are going to say where we are heading to, where we're going to and, of course, our essence.

In the course of time... naturally...
